Our homestead life is set amidst an 80-acre canvas of overgrown landscape, anchored by a 114-year-old neglected farmhouse that whispers secrets of the past, An eclectic assortment of outbuildings, scattered as if by chance, adds to the charm. But it’s the endless list of unexpected challenges and misadventures – a veritable manifestation of Murphy’s Law – that truly defines our journey, transforming every day into unpredictable adventure.

Farm life is full of the unexpected moments which catch us off guard. Whether it’s a stunning sunrise which takes our breath away in spectacular fashion, or the end of a life for a beloved family pet or loss of a necessary resource.
Every moment we live is a moment we choose to adapt, absorb and carry on with gratefulness that we are given the present in which to thrive, despite or because of our circumstances.

Mangalitsa Pork

Life with the Mangalitsa is like having your very own circus! Possessing quite the sense of humor, the loyal behavior as of a best dog friend, adorned with a curly hair coat that puts any sheep to shame, “Wooly pigs” entertain us all with their antics and provide us with an encore of delicious tasting pork that can’t be beat.

The Mangalitsa pig is an old fashioned heritage breed which hit near extinction in the early 1990s. Developed in Hungary through breeding of the nearby Romanian Salonta and the Hungarian Bakony domestics with the European wild boar and the Sumadija breed, there are very few known US breeders. Viewed in the culinary world as the “Wyagu Beef” of pork, mangalitsa is 65-70% fat and the remaining portion lean meat. Their creamy white lard contains no trans fat unlike vegetable oils and margarine and contains less unsaturated fat than an equal portion of butter. Perfect balance in marbling results in what is hailed as the “best pork available”.
Mangalitsa have smaller litters and are slower to grow which makes it undesirable for large operations yet is quite suitable for the small family farms.

We were blessed at the beginning of our adventure to acquire one of each of the 3 colors available in this breed. Our initial breeders are – “Curly”, a blonde sow, “Baby” a swallow belly sow, and “Piglet”, a ginger boar.

We offer young piglets for sale as well as butcher ready. Ask about availability.

Growing the good stuff

Sharing our love of fresh grown nourishment using unconventional methods such as “No Dig”, natural bug resistance, free form raised bed, companion planting and “Gorilla Grown”. Our first goal in gardening is to provide as close to 100% of our farm use. A fairly large combined family of Grandparents, grown children and grandchildren use a surprisingly large amount of vegetables and fruits. We also have begun the adventure of growing fodder for our animals. We offer experienced knowledge to share with others as well as selling the over abundance we are blessed with to those who aspire to eat healthier.
